The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of a husband and wife, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu community, Anambra State.
The couple was remanded in a Correctional Centre after being arraigned before a competent court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations by the police into the matter.
The case had generated widespread public concern after disturbing reports and video footage showing the condition of the young victim surfaced on social media, drawing condemnation from residents and concerned members of the public.
Police authorities disclosed that the swift intervention of residents, who provided timely information and cooperated with law enforcement agents, played a crucial role in rescuing the child from the alleged abuse. The victim was subsequently taken for urgent medical attention, while the suspects were apprehended and subjected to investigation.
Commending members of the community for their vigilance and support, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, noted that collective responsibility remains vital in protecting vulnerable members of society, especially children.
The Command reiterated its commitment to promoting justice and safeguarding human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police. It assured the public that further developments in the matter would be communicated as the judicial process continues.
